Dani Filth

Dani Filth

Dani Filth (born Daniel Lloyd Davey on July 25th, 1973 in Hertford, England) is the lyricist, vocalist, artistic director and founding member of the British extreme metal band Cradle of Filth. Filth is the only remaining member of the band's original line-up, and has been accused by former members of regarding it almost as his own solo project ("Dani and the Filths", according to ex-keyboard player Les "Lecter" Smith).

Quotes

* "I fucking hate arrogance. No, correct that... I fucking hate people. Vast mindless herds of people, usually around Christmas time or rush hour. And TV stereotyping. Urrrgh! Normality, waiting for anything (patience is not one of my virtues), litter, concrete urbanisation, lack of vision, religious strangleholds, bigotry, sponge cake... hate them all."

* "You tend to get rather bored with people or bands not making an effort to look less than ordinary, so we just try and be a little flamboyant, it's just the way we are. We're into this kinda thing."

* (When asked why he has a skeleton in his kitchen) "Well, it's a new kitchen.. so we thought it'd be ironic really, to have a skeleton in there."

* (When asked how he trains his voice) "Continual masturbation. I'm masturbating now. This arm is polystyrene."

* (When asked about his ties to Australia) "Yeah i know a few people, They have been a great help with my music, Elizabeth(Bundaberg QLD) always tells me how great I am and that I change the lives of others. She is the first person to actually be able to put up with me really. Why do I suddnly feel sorry for her."

* (When asked about what he's going to teach Luna about religion) "I'll let her make up her own mind. I'm not going to force her into anything. I'm not going to force her into anything at all."

* (Concerning Luna) "She doesn't use the 'F' word though. Just like her daddy."

* (When asked what he's going to expose Luna to) "This is the irony of it. She loves Winnie the Pooh. And she loves The Simpsons. And she loves Disney. And Stuart Little. And stuff like that. And she'll dance to it, and that's what you expect from kids. But then at the same time, she'll be dancing around the kitchen to the new Nile album. At the moment she is too young to understand the difference. And that innocence is worth protecting."

Cradle Of Filth

Cradle Of Filth

Official Biography...
The cradle is rocking, the dead are rising, the seas will boil and the skies will fall. As the world stands poised on the edge of mass destruction, the freaks, fools and monsters who rule us are about to be taught a real lesson in the use of power, for Cradle of Filth have created the greatest album of their career to date. 'Damnation and a Day', has been carved out of the darkness that is about to engulf what we know as civilisation.

The recordings, spawned from the loins of five of the most controversial Lords of darkness ever to walk the earth grew to their full strength at Parkgate, a studio set in the blood-soaked town of Battle, set in darkest Hastings. Inspired by their surroundings, the five Horsemen of the Apocalypse fed on the blood of Doug Cook who was unwittingly drafted in to co-produce and engineer the album. Little did he know that he was merely a victim.

Cradle sucked the knowledge out of their hapless victim and used his withered shell of a body to help direct them in their quest to create the darkest album they could possibly imagine, before disposing of his corpse in a ritualistic shooting. The bullet still lays lodged in his face. The corpse of course has never been found.

But the blood letting did not stop there. Daniel Presley, was hung, drawn and quavered after scoring the final pages of music for the live orchestra.

The death toll now standing at 10 (that's including the rest of the staff at Parkgate, who died slowly over the five months of recording), Cradle still weren't satiated, so a week spent in Budapest saw the death toll rise to 82 as they massacred the 40 piece orchestra and the 32 piece choir.

Hungary has once again fallen under the shadow of evil. Elzabeth Bathory will pale into comparison when this news gets out.

'Damnation and a Day' was scripted by the prince of darkness Dani Filth, whose quest to decipher the truth behind the Bible, brought him to summon forth Lucifer during a ritualistic killing. The once expelled angel willingly gave his side of the story from beginning to what will be the inevitable end for us. You will bear witness to his tale, during the 17 tracks of the concept album 'Damnation and a Day' which lies before you. Your death is nigh, so listen carefully and then offer your soul to the Filth and you might be saved, deny them and your destruction will come in many forms.

They will choose it, they will watch it and they will undoubtedly laugh in your tortured face.

The sonic soundscape that encapsulates the satanic readings were finely crafted from the cries that resonate from the depths of Hades by lords Dani, Paul, Martin, Adrian and Dave. The final stage was the mix. The two disciples known as Rob Caggiano and Steve Regina were called upon to aid the dark lords in their quest, along with the reanimated tortured soul of Doug Cook.

Once you have listened to what is to come, you will bow your heads to one of the finest albums to rise from the cradle.

Sony have now embraced the darkness and under the influence of evil have become slaves to the dark powers that have been engulfing them for over a year, all have committed their souls to spreading the message and will by the March 10th 2003 release unto us the future.

So go forth and cut out the tongues of the unbelievers, lay waste to the trash that assaults our ears every day, for that is merely a smoke screen to numb your minds from the truth, and beg forgiveness for your past sins. For if you don't, you're fucked.

World domination takes apart society as we know it in mid March when the Cradle swings into action and takes to the road to hell, first into Europe and then back to the US to follow up last year's sell out tour. So all the petty little people out there with their bombs and their guns better run away now, because it's show time and they haven't got a hope in hell, even if they do have an access all areas pass.

Cradle of filth have finally arrived at the palace of righteousness, ready to drain the blood from your face and whatever is left of your miserable pathetic carcass.

ACDC

AC/DC's mammoth power-chord roar became one of the most influential hard rock sounds of the '70s. In its own way, it was a reaction against the pompous art rock and lumbering arena

rock of the early '70s. AC/DC's rock was minimalist -- no matter how huge and bludgeoning the guitar chords were, there was a clear sense of space and restraint. Combined with Bon Scott's larynx-shredding vocals, the band spawned countless imitators over the next two decades.

AC/DC was formed in 1973 in Australia by guitarist Malcolm Young after his band, the Velvet Underground, collapsed (Young's band has no relation to the seminal American group). With his younger brother Angus as lead guitarist, the band played some gigs around Sydney. Angus was only 15-years-old at the time and his sister suggested that he should wear his school uniform on-stage; the look became the band's visual trademark. While still in Sydney, the original lineup (featuring singer Dave Evans) cut a single called "Can I Sit Next to You," with ex-Easybeats Harry Vanda and George Young (Malcolm and Angus' older brother) producing.

The band moved to Melbourne the following year, where drummer Phil Rudd (formerly of the Coloured Balls) and bassist Mark Evans joined the band. The band's chauffeur, Bon Scott, became their lead vocalist when their singer, Dave Evans, refused to go on-stage.

Previously, Scott had been vocalist for the Australian prog rock bands Fraternity and the Valentines. More importantly, he helped cement the group's image as brutes -- he had several convictions on minor criminal offenses and was rejected by the Australian Army for being "socially maladjusted." And AC/DC was socially maladjusted. Throughout their career they favored crude double entendres and violent imagery, all spiked with a mischievous sense of fun.

The group released two albums -- High Voltage and TNT -- in Australia in 1974 and 1975. Material from the two records comprised the 1976 release High Voltage in the U.S. and U.K.; the group also toured both countries. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap followed at the end of the year. Evans left the band at the beginning of 1977, with Cliff Williams taking his place. In the fall of 1977, AC/DC released Let There Be Rock, which became their first album to chart in the U.S.

Powerage, released in spring of 1978, expanded their audience even further, thanks in no small part to their dynamic live shows (which were captured on 1978's live If You Want Blood, You've Got It). What really broke the doors down for the band was the following year's Highway to Hell, which hit number 17 in the U.S. and number eight in the U.K., becoming the group's first million-seller.

AC/DC's train was derailed when Bon Scott died on February 20, 1980. The official coroner's report stated he had "drunk himself to death." In March, the band replaced Scott with Brian Johnson. The following month, the band recorded Back in Black, which would prove to be their biggest album, selling over ten million copies in the U.S. alone. For the next few years, the band was one of the largest rock bands in the world, with For Those About to Rock We Salute You topping the charts in the U.S. In 1982, Rudd left the band; he was replaced by Simon Wright.

After 1983's Flick of the Switch, the band's commercial standing began to slip; they were able to reverse their slide with 1990's The Razor's Edge, which spawned the hit "Thunderstruck." While not the commercial powerhouse they were during the late '70s and early '80s, the '90s saw them maintain their status as a top international concert draw. In the fall of 1995, their 16th album, Ballbreaker, was released. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album received some of the most positive reviews of AC/DC's career. Ballbreaker entered the American charts at number four and sold over a million copies in its first six months of release. Stiff Upper Lip followed in early 2000. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Early life

Marilyn Manson was born in Canton, Ohio and christened Brian Hugh Warner. He attended Heritage Christian School, but was alienated by what he saw as hypocrisy, and a religion that seemed to teach fear more than it taught virtues; sermons prophesying the Apocalypse had a lasting effect upon his outlook. After transferring and later graduating from Canton's Glen Oak High School, Brian and his family moved to Boca Raton, Florida. While living in Boca Raton, he attended Broward Community College studying journalism and theater [3], becoming assistant entertainment editor of BCC's student newspaper, the Observer.

Marriage

Manson and Von Teese started dating on Manson's 32nd birthday, and Manson proposed four years later on 22 March 2004. On 3 December 2005, the couple were married in a non-denominational ceremony at Gurteen Castle in Kilsheelan, County Tipperary, Ireland, the home of Gottfried Helnwein. The wedding was officiated by surrealist film director and comic book writer Alejandro Jodorowsky. She wore a royal purple silk taffeta gown by Vivienne Westwood, complete with train and petticoats worn over a Mr. Pearl couture corset, topped off by a tricorne hat by Stephen Jones, while Manson wore a John Galliano black silk taffeta tuxedo with velvet trim and a hat also crafted by Stephen Jones. They reportedly exchanged vows in front of approximately 60 guests, including burlesque dancer Catherine Delish, Lisa Marie Presley, Eric Szmanda, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, David Lynch, Jessicka and Christian Hejnal. Vogue magazine ran a multiple-page feature on the wedding in its February 2006 issue. Just before his own wedding, Manson criticized Britney Spears's wedding to Kevin Federline, in which they celebrated by wearing personalized tracksuits: "If you're going to do something like getting married, it should have a sense of celebration to it. It should be grand and not in tracksuits!"

Career

In music

Manson has helped or provided full scores for several major motion pictures, although several of his pieces have been cut, and his name dropped from the credits. Some of his more notable soundtrack score contributions include From Hell, The Matrix and Resident Evil.

Manson appeared as a guest on rapper DMX's album Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood for the track "The Omen", produced by Swizz Beats, and has performed (with the rest of the band) on stage with Eminem as background music in the song "The Way I Am".

In film and television

Manson made a cameo appearance as a doctor in the Murderdolls' music video "Dead in Hollywood", and also appears in the Nine Inch Nails music video "Starsuckers, Inc."

His first appearance in a film was in the role of a pornographic actor in David Lynch's Lost Highway, in 1997. He also had a minor role in former love interest Rose McGowan's 1998 film Jawbreaker and a supporting role in 2003's Party Monster. Manson made a cameo appearance in a short film in the BMW Films series (starring Clive Owen as the Driver), which featured James Brown as himself, and Gary Oldman as Satan. His most talked-about film cameo was in the Michael Moore political documentary Bowling for Columbine discussing the motivations of the perpetrators and allegations that his music was somehow a factor. Marilyn Manson was considered for the role of Dr Jonathon Crane/The Scarecrow in Batman Begins. He played himself, in animated form, on an episode of the television series Clone High, in which he sang a song about nutrition and the food pyramid.

Manson was featured in the 2004 film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, and is set to appear in Abelcain, directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Living Neon Dreams in 2005. He will also be seen as a bartender in an upcoming vampire movie starring Lucy Liu called Rise.

In July 2005, Manson told Rolling Stone Magazine that he was shifting his focus from music to filmmaking - "I just don't think the world is worth putting music into right now. I no longer want to make art that other people--particularly record companies--are turning into a product. I just want to make art."

He is currently working on his directorial debut, Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll, which is scheduled to appear on his website by the end of 2006. The film is said to feature special effects using a magician rather than computer-generated imagery.

An urban legend circulated in the 1990s that the actor Josh Saviano who played a nerdy sidekick in the 1960s themed TV show The Wonder Years grew up to be Marilyn Manson. Another urban legend circulated that actor Rob Stone from Mr. Belvedere was Marilyn Manson at a younger age. Neither, of course, are true.

In art

Manson is also an accomplished watercolor painter. An exhibit for his art was held at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions on September 13, September 14, 2002 and also at the Hotel Lutecia, Paris on September 14, 2004 and the next day in Berlin. He contributed a piece to the West Memphis Three benefit exhibition at six spaces. Many of his paintings have sold for over $5,000; buyers include Jack Osbourne, Nicolas Cage, Dave Navarro, Andy Dick and Lisa Marie Presley. He has been asked by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to paint a portrait of their family.[citation needed] He has also stated that a new book containing all his pieces of art work will be released in the near future, possibly 2006. In a recent interview he stated it will be called "The Death of Art."[citation needed]

Manson calls his art movement the Celebritarian Corporation. In January 2006 his website was updated with many new artworks being revealed. Details have been listed here at the Hierophant.

Lawsuits

* In a civil battery suit, David Diaz, a security officer from a concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 27, 2000, sued for $75,000 in a Minneapolis federal court.[4][5] The federal court jury found in Manson's favor.[6]
* In a civil suit presented by Oakland County, Manson was charged with sexual misconduct against another security officer, Joshua Keasler, during a concert in Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 2001. Oakland County originally filed assault & battery and criminal sexual misconduct charges,[7] but the judge reduced the latter charge to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.[8] Manson pleaded no contest to the reduced charges, paid a $4,000 fine,[9] and later settled the lawsuit under undisclosed terms.[10]

* A $15M lawsuit by former guitarist Scott Putesky (known in the band as Daisy Berkowitz) was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

* In April 2002 the mother of Jennifer Syme alleged that Manson's distribution of a controlled substance led to her wrongful death.
